Trump says he met with the ‘president of the Virgin Islands’

President Trump, who once referred to a nonexistent African country named Nambia, said he spoke to the “president of the Virgin Islands” in a speech Friday.

Of course, because the Virgin Islands is a U.S. territory, Trump is its president.

“I will tell you I left Texas and I left Florida and I left Louisiana and I went to Puerto Rico and I met with the president of the Virgin Islands,” Trump said while talking about the recovery efforts in those areas following Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

The latest “covfefe” moment occurred during Trump’s speech at the Values Voter Summit in Washington. Trump was apparently referring Virgin Islands Gov. Kenneth Mapp. In the White House transcript, a parenthetical correction of “governor” has been added.

Snarky Twitter remarks quickly followed the gaffe
